Our Story
We focus on our philosophy of “Leading a green lifestyle”
Mazingira Alliance is a community-based organization based in Mandera County, Kenya, dedicated to environmental conservation, climate action, and biodiversity restoration. We work at the grassroots level to address environmental challenges through community engagement, education, and practical action.
Our focus areas include tree planting, clean-up activities, environmental awareness campaigns, and mentorship and training programs. By working closely with schools, youth groups, community leaders, and local institutions, we promote sustainable environmental practices and empower communities to take ownership of their natural resources.
Our Mission
To accelerate climate change adaptation and mitigation by catalyzing individual and community level interventions that enhances well-being, livelihood security, environmental conservation and sustainable asset-based community development.
Our Vision
To be the most resourceful grassroots network of multi-stakeholder actors committed to creating a green legacy in the conservation and protection of biodiversity and ecosystem services enhancement.

Burhanudin Mohamud
Founder and Director
Graduate in Natural Resources Management from Karatina University. Certified Professional Mediator. Associate Expert registered with NEMA. 7 years of experience in Community work, environmental restoration and policy formulation.Founder and director at Mazingira Alliance
Brian Kithinji
Director, Partnerships and Linkages
Brian Kithinji is a policy analyst with experience in participatory research and community engagement. He is a member of the EU Youth Sounding Board in Kenya and a Rotary Peace Fellow at Makerere University.
Siyad Ahmed Maalim, PMP®
Program Co-ordinator
Siyad is an environmental and project management professional with over eight years of experience in climate change programming, environmental management, and grassroots projects in arid and semi-arid lands in Kenya.A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Siyad applies strategic leadership to deliver impactful, community-centered environmental conservation initiatives in Kenya’s frontline ecosystems.
As Programmes Coordinator at Mazingira Alliance, he leads the implementation of organizational programs through inclusive, volunteer-driven approaches.
Hibaq Adan
Deputy Director
A passionate advocate for environmental sustainability with a strong academic background in Water Engineering and Environmental Management, and ongoing advanced training in Project Management. My education has equipped me with both technical expertise and strategic leadership skills necessary for effective environmental programming.
In my role as Deputy Director of Mazingira Alliance, I work to strengthen institutional capacity, support impactful projects, and advance solutions that balance environmental protection with community development.
